The Prodigal Son , by Salvator Rosa (1615 – 1673), was engraved by esteemed French engraver, J. B. Michel (1738 – 1804), for the Houghton Gallery Series collection.

A stipple and line engraver, Jean Baptiste Michel, studied art under Chenu (1718/1730 – 1800) in Paris and established his reputation in his native France before moving to London around 1780.

The Prodigal Son , was published by the eminent English publisher, John Boydell (1719 – 1804), March 25, 1775, in Cheapside London. The Prodigal Son engraving has a vellum covering and measures, 11.75” H X 10.00” W, with the image size of, 09.25” H X 07.75” W
