Antique Carpenters Tool Chest Box w/Drawers

$450.00
Quantity available: 1

This is a nice antique carpenter's tool chest with several locking features and compartments. It is large, and heavy duty. It measures 44.5" long x 27" deep x 24" high. It is very well made with standard joinery, no fancy dovetails, but each feature like the drawers, top inside slide and various storage compartments are all square and move smoothly. Often called a joiner's, or carpenter's job box, this type box was used in the late 1800 to early 1900's to store and lock all the craftsman's tools at the job site since contractors didn't have vans and trucks with storage lockers to bring tools to the job site each day. This box feature keys to work every lock including the top lid, inside top slide, document box, (4) drawers, all locks in good working order. There is (4) metal handles, two at each end due to the weight capacity of such a large chest. It also has non-swival casters on the bottom that allow the chest to roll on a fairly smooth surface, all hardware in great shape. The box is all original except for the one hinge support board at the rear top of the lower section where the top lid hinges attach. It was replace with hardwood like the rest of the chest, but the old milk paint was not matched, so you can see the lighter color of the wood. The replacement was done like original otherwise, all the same sizes and well attached. The is no damage on the chest, as you can see, some paint wear and staining, but other than mentioned, appears all original.
This type of chest would make a nice coffee table or center table in a room with other antique decorations. Please plan to pick this item up in Caldwell Ohio 43724 if interested in purchasing it.
