This is a fine oil painting on artist board by the listed artist, Georges S. Monka (1916-2001). Signed by the artist "G. S. Monka", dated "949" (for 1949) with the word "Paris". This lovely impressionist or expressionist work depicts a smiling woman in a long skirt holding a basket of fruit. Note how the shimmering sunlight twinkles through the trees and foliage in the background, and how her skirt is shown in a combination of bright sunlight and shadows. Board measures 13" x 21.75" and frame measures 19.3" x 27.6". Weighs 4.5 lbs. Simonka's works are regularly sold at major auction in Europe. The most recent known exposition of Monka's works was held by the Galerie des Wantiers (VALENCIENNES) in Paris in December 2004 in a show that was entitled simply "Georges Simonka (1916-2001): un Hongrois à Paris, which translates to "An Hungarian in Paris".
