A pair of authentic & old Batak Fertility Statue consisting two pregnant female figure(note their belly) sculpture, each carved from a single piece of hardwood trunk. Specially made stand is included. Nice aging and patina, please note one of the statue has a long split along the arm to bottom base due to old age but otherwise very solid and in good condition. More beautiful in real life. Circa 1960.

Batak is a collective term used to identify a number of ethnic groups found in the highlands of North Sumatra Indonesia.
Toba Batak are known traditionally for their weaving, wood carving and especially ornate stone tombs. Their burial and marriage traditions are very rich and complex. The burial tradition includes a ceremony in which the bones of ones ancestors are re interred several years after death.
