Antique American - AETCO - Children's Fables Picture Tile

$185.00
Quantity available: 1

Terrific picture tile from the series designed by Walter Crane, "Children's Fables". Here is "Fortune and the Boy" from the American Encaustic Tiling Company, Zanesville, OH. Printed at the bottom of the tile after the poem is the moral of the story: "Fortune Is Not Answerable For Our Want Of Foresight." The tile is transfer printed in a rich and warm palette and covered in a soft satin glaze. Walter Crane's initials appear contained within a circle within the wheel of fortune below the boy's head. It is in very good condition with light edge nicks. These tiles are interesting in that they have adages similar to those on the Wedgwood tiles from the Homilies series also listed.
