This walnut Victorian Canterbury or music stand is unusually large. These were originally designed to store sheet music and also to be carried to the player’s organ or piano when in use. That is the purpose of the 2 delicately turned handles and intricately carved dividers. The top shelf measures 35” tall. Notice the slender turnings and bold carvings on the sides of the Canterbury. There is a serpentine shaped drawer along the bottom which can be cleverly accessed from either side. Look closely and you will see a chip of wood missing on the top right front of one side of the drawer. This is only visible upon very close examination. The finish is original and in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and patina.
