A. W. Crossman Socket Framing 1.5 inch Chisel mid 1800's

Unavailable

This is a very rare, nice example of a mid 19th century cast steel "W. CROSSMAN" on the steel! Amory W. Crossman was known to have made draw knives, chisels, metal planes, and other tools from 1850-1883 in West Warren Mass. U.S.A.. We see very few of the Crossman tools, which were often marked WARRENTED CAST STEEL, this one is marked only "ST STEEL" and made of top quality steel. This 1-1/2 wide x 13.1" long overall socket framing chisel is about the nicest example we have seen by this maker! The cutting edge is sharp, steel is clean except for some minor pitting on the outside of the socket area, and a few other very small area, no pitting or damage in the cutting edge area.  Very nice hardwood handle with no cracks, and very little wear. A very rare chisel!
