Vintage Eskimo artist Robert Mayokok designed plate of Inupiaq village blanket toss, circa 1950. Robert Mayokok (1903 - 1983) was a very prolific and enterprising artist and reindeer trainer; he had a number of interesting occupations and was well-traveled. During the fifties and sixties, he was the resident artist at the Alaska Treasure Shop where his sketches were commercially produced on pottery and china. By his own account, he produced 2000 to 3000 drawings per year. The original for this drawing was done circa 1940's - 1950's and is in the collection at the California Academy of Sciences Museum. This plate is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks and minimal surface wear. There are holes on the back for hanging. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition.
