Very wearable hand sewn Quilted Cotton Skirt dating from late 19th c. - earliest part of 20th c. The 20 rows of hand quilting make up 17" of a total length of 38". The waistband ties in the back. This came from a Connecticut coastal, sea-faring family and is thought to possibly be an under skirt with a sufficient weight to keep it from blowing in the harsh New England coastal winds. This is a good piece of American historical apparal and could also be appreciated and used by re-enactors. Overall it is in good condition with no fabric weakness but does exhibit some minor staining, indicating it was put to good use.
