Vintage Oriental Moriage Slip Decorated Lamp

Unavailable
Vintage Oriental table lamp, featuring a tall, two handled moriage slip decorated vase with a brass top and black, carved wood base, circa 1940's. The earthenware vase is deep green, with large white Japanese tree peonies on the front and back, with interspersed small pink and white blossoms. There are white bands at the top and bottom on the front side which contain gold waterbirds in flight. The entire design appears to be slip decorated, thickly "painted" with liquid clay (slip) producing raised decoration, including tiny moriage dots. A great deal of gold was used in the decoration. The vase section of this distinctive lamp measures about 12 inches high, 7 1/2 inches wide, and 6 3/4 inches deep. The lamp has a tall harp and measures about 28 inches high including the harp and the base. The origin of the lamp is unknown although the vase is almost certainly Japanese. The vase was purchased at an estate sale which included many fine antique items from around the globe. The lamp is in very good condition and functions very well. It has the original cord. The vase has no chips or cracks, and minimal to light surface wear. There are a few small bits of glaze loss. The brass top has a small amount of discoloration, a couple of tiny dimples, and a little scratching. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging will be $20.00.
