Vintage Ice Pal Ice Fishing Sled / Primitive Piece

Vintage Ice Pal ice fishing sled / primitive piece that would make a great primitive decorating item or could be used for its original purpose. This bright red and white painted sled appears to be made from a durable fiberboard. It is mounted on steel runners, and has steel edge and corner trim and a solid steel adjustable pull handle. The main cabinet measures approximately 12 inches high, 16 inches wide, and 12 inches deep. It has a removable divider in the center which separates the cabinet into 2 compartments. On the sides of the cabinet, in white lettering is ICE PAL. One side has an applied label: LAKE MFG. CO., LANSING, MICHIGAN. The removable top is a seat. It is lined with a ceramic fire-proof board (that is cracked but stable) which was designed to protect the seat from a lit gas lantern; a Coleman-type lantern would sit in the compartment to provide light and heat for the fisherman. There are small ventilation holes in the compartment and a large hole in the back with an adjustable lid to provide the lantern with the proper amount of air. The front and back panels on the seat have been replaced with 1 inch wood boards, one of which has been singed, probably by a gas lantern. Overall, this is a very functional piece and was very popular with Northern ice fisherman. It would also make a great, primitive log holder, planter, magazine holder, or display piece, and would look great in a lodge or casual space. The Ice Pal is in very good condition, with the exception of the board replacements. It has light to moderate surface wear. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition.
