Here is a great amusement park animal with a bit of a history. This Ostrich or Emu was carved by one of the NY or Phila carving houses around 1926 and thereafter spent the next 40 years or so on a child's ride at an amusment park near Syracuse, NY. When the park closed, Big Bird was rescued around 1970 and spent the next 20 or so years in a restaurant in Manhattan and then remained in the family collection until purchased by us.
We believe that the Ostrich was repainted by a professional artist in 1970, and the polychrome colors are still magnificent. We see no visible evidence of repairs of any kind - no nails, screws or bolts - any of the things one would look for when examining a park animal. Animal is mounted on a partial pole and painted wooden base - and this appears to have been an outside row or second row stationary animal as he is fully carved on both sides.
Animal is in beautiful shape with original glass eyes and would certainly be a showcase to any collection.
