Vintage / Antique New Guinea Carved Gable Mask

Unavailable
Vintage / antique New Guinea carved wooden tribal mask, measuring about 20.5 inches high, 8.5 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep, and weighing about 2.25 pounds. This artifact was part of a New Guinea collection given to Andre Bus, prominent designer for Lane Furniture, in the 1950's. It is likely from the Sawo People of the Middle Sepik River. It is missing a pair of ground conus shell eyes but still has character. These are commonly described as Gable Masks as they are hung on the exterior of the Spirit / Ghost house just under the eaves as magical protection against bush spirits. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging will be $15.00.
