A superb Victorian sterling soup or punch ladle, the handle entirely coverd in repousse floral decoration. The workmanship is easily on par with the best of Kirk, Schofield, Warner, Jacobi or the other major Baltimore makers. The heart-shaped bowl is parcel-gilt and is decorated with bright-cut engraving of wild roses and foliage. The back is stamped Sterling and has the retailers mark for J. G. Gehring & Son. Origin: America, ca. 1890. Condition: excellent, sharp detail, original gilding, no monogram. Size: 12-3/8 long. Weight: 194.5 grams.
