Victorian Architectural Ornate Cast Iron Newel Posts

Here is a pair of Victorian Architectural Ornate Cast Iron Newel Posts dating to the latter part of the 19th Century. These were salvaged from a Victorian home in Bristol, TN, and these are in incredibly fine shape. There is absolutely no pitting anywhere on the metal. They appear to have been sand blasted, primed with red lead primer and then painted black at some point in the fairly recent past. We are selling them just the way we found them, without having repainted them so that you can see the read lead primer where some of the black paint has chipped.

These posts are 47" tall and 6 1/2" wide at the octagonal base. There are metal straps welded onto the bases to help support them. These are 10 piece castings per post, and then welded together. The welds are clean and have been ground down at the time the posts were assembled. The acansuth casting detail is magnificent on both posts. This is certainly a lost art and a tribute to the unknown foundry and craftsmen who created these nearly 150 years ago.  It will be hard to find another pair in this condition at this price.

Installation would be quite simple as the bases are hollow and will accomodate either a 4x4" wood or 4"  lolly column embedded in the ground below the frost line. The newel posts would just slide on top of these.

Shipping Options: These are quite heavy, about 75+ pounds each (uncrated) so the freight will be moderately high. We suggest a pick-up of these items - a delivery/meet might be possible depending on where you live. Or you might try Uship.com for a "blanket wrap"  quote.
