Typically when Southwestern pieces use a black and white or silver color palate they use sterling silver and onyx. However, in this piece the artist combined sterling silver with the dark metallic sheen of hematite set on a background with antiquing. The hematite shines and looks quite beautiful next to the shine of the sterling silver spheres shining next to them. Also the detailed engravings create a rough look especially next to the smooth surface of the hematite.
