Soul of those passed Antique Victorian Mourning Brooch 18kt gold overlay Butterfly Black jet

Unavailable
The butterfly in Victorian times was a symbol of the soul. It’s considered bad luck to kill a white butterfly, because those hold the souls of deceased children. This whimsical old brooch has a butterfly center with small flowers that grow up from under it. The layering is 18kt gold gilt  over black. It might be jet. This might be older than it looks. It seems that it was once part of something , because you can see small metal pins on the back. A lot of time in the late 1800's pieces were repurposed into brooches as you can see by this antique C clasp on the back. The fact that the pin protrudes out farther than the brooch tells me it was redone in the late 1800's. A whimsical interesting and heartfelt heirloom, this brooch seems to carry with it a peacefulness with it. For someone who has lost a loved one, this antique sentimental brooch would be something to let them know that their loved one is not far.    VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from..
