Augustus II Dresden Porcelain Parcel Gilt Porcelain Sculpture After Vinanche

Unavailable

This truly magnificent, large and rare parcel gilt porcelain figurine from Dresden Germany depicts Augustus II, known as Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), and as Frederick Augustus I, Elector of the Saxony state of the Holy Roman Empire and King of Poland. Measures an impressive 25 x 18 x 11 in (3 x 46 x 28 cm).  This work, including the large plinth with lengthy title, is based on Goldener Reiter (Golden Rider), the gilded equestrian statue by Jean Joseph Vinanche cast in 1734.  Its large plinth dates from 1884, which of course helps us date this particular porcelain.  It remains on display in the Neustadter Markrt near the Augustus Bridge in Dresden.
