Traditional 100% Hand-knit Irish Fisherman's Clan Cardigan Sweater made in Ireland by Donegal Handcrafz
As in all of the Irish Fisherman's sweaters the knit pattern signify important virtues of the life of the Irish Fisherman.
The rope or cable stitch = strength.Honey Comb stitch looks like its name and is made by twisting stitches forwards and backwards across the panel. It is a tribute to the bee. It was considered a lucky omen if a fisherman saw a swarm of bees before setting out to sea - a good catch was assured.
This pattern is on the front and the back and down the top of each sleeve.
The knit is fairly tight the the wool feels firm. The quality is superb.
The condition is excellent. Here are some basic measurements:
Bust or Chest going all the way around just under the armpits:..... 38"
The length from should to hem:..... 24."
The measurement from shoulder/ sleeve combined is .....26"
This sweater is clean and ready to wear. It is vintage and it is a bit stretched out on the button facing.
