Tomoe Yokoi (1942 - )

Japanese, b.1942
Yokoi studied art in Tokyo and later in Paris at Hayter's Atelier 17, the most prestigious school of intaglio printing. She settled in New York in 1971, having perfected the difficult and arduous technique of colour mezzotint printing. She combines European beaux-art subject matter with an oriental emphasis on asymmetry and design, producing subtly nuanced prints, many of which are in major international museums. Yokoi's work is shown in prestigious permanent collections including the Musée d' Art Moderne, Paris; the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris; Brooklyn Museum, New York; and the Free Library of Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania. Yokoi has exhibited throughout Europe and the United States including: Norwegian International Print Biennial, Oslo; Paris International Print Biennial; SAGA National Print Exhibition, New York; IKI International Art Fair, Dusseldorf; British International Print Biennial, Bradford; and Ljubljana International Print Biennial, Yugoslavia.
