This is a very nice Rohrman and Son lidded tin container in Very Good condition. J. Hall Rohrman operated during 1800s in Philadelphia, PA. Rohrman was contracted to make over 200,000 tin canteens by February 16,1864 for use during the Civil War. This container is constructed of heavy tin and has a very nice hinged lid and clasp set at an angle on the front. The interior of the container still retains most of its bright tin finish - the exterior still shows remnants of the original paint and has the attractive patina of very old tin. This container has a height of 7 3/4 and a depth of 8. This would make a wonderful bin to hold bench flour or sugar in a chuck box. Bins like this are scarce and will hold their own in any collection of antique tin ware.
