Stanley No. 4 Smooth Plane Type 17

$95.00
Quantity available: 1

Offering this nice clean smooth plane marked "STANLEY MADE IN U.S.A." on the cutter, and "BAILEY NO. 4 MADE IN U.S.A." on the bed. This plane has about 97% original black Japanning intact, a good sharp cutter, no cracks, minor staining, very clean bare metal surfaces. The hardwood front knob is nice, solid, with a nice patina finish, minimal wear with only very tiny dings and scratches, mostly on the lacquer finish. The aluminum handle is a Stanley option, they sell for about $30-$40 separately, and are fairly rare, this one is in fine condition. The aluminum was desired by schools and shops who wanted to avoid replacing the wood handles due to heavy use or accidental damage. This plane obviously never got into heavy service as it is as nice as the come. The hard rubber cutter depth adjustment knob (like on this plane) was only available during the war production period between 1941-45. A ready to use or display plane by a top quality maker!
