Stanley Carpenters Ratchet Brace No. 919
This is a very nice, clean, early 1900's ratchet hand brace, and it has a 10" swing. It is marked "STANLEY NO. 919-10 IN" on the steel. The chuck design is Bartholomew's Patent 11/02/1908. The ratchet system and chuck is in very good condition with nice heavy duty, spring loaded jaw insert (leaf spring type), the knurled part of the chuck or the chuck sleeve is steel with moderate wear (fully functional), very good working ratchet system as well. The head turns smoothly, capped with a very nice cocobolo handle, and the crank handle matches it very well in very good condition and appearance. The condition is good+ overall, with no rust or damage, some minor dings, and scratches, some darkened areas on the steel, some minor pitting on the steel arms, the cocobolo is very clean, little wear overall. We note that most of the nickel plating on the steel head flange is worn off, but there is some still intact, and some flaking off moderately. The sweep handle is also rosewood, and in very nice condition. The the head end spindle plate is ball bearing type, very smooth turning. In really good working condition overall. A quality made brace, still in great shape, nice looking too!
