This is a very interesting Genealogical ensemble and documentation of the SIMPSON lineage from Scotland. The 19th c. engraving of Sir James Young Simpson (1811 - 1870)above his family crest is in a 19th c. oak frame measuring 11 3/4" x 13 1/2". The back chronicles his life and accomplishments as a physician, and discoveror of Chloroform. This history was removed, copied and preserved in a plastic sleeve because of its fragility. Once this was removed, it uncovered a five generation family tree of the Simpson-Grindley family, beginning with Alexander Simpson, b. 1725 and ending with James Walter MacKay born 1882. The other part of the ensemble is the Simpson Family Crest, handpainted and framed in a 19th c. oak frame measuring 9" x ll". Sir John received such status that a bronze statue of him was erected on Princes Street in Edinburgh and a bust in Westminster Abbey.
