Silver Hilted Smallsword, with Scabbard, Mid-18th C

Unavailable

Solid silver hilt with symmetrical double shell guard, decorated ensuite with spiral fluting and acanthus leaves (tight break at base of knucklebow where it joins the quillon block). Diagonally recurved single quillon, no hallmarks visible. Undecorated 27 3/8" colichemarde blade, heavily pitted, probably from long storage in a leather scabbard. Original leather over wood scabbard with silver throat and button, associated brass chape; in poor condition, repaired with black tape. Overall length 33 3/4". With the absence of hallmarks this sword was possibly made in Colonial America.
