LIMITED EDITION GICLEE PRINT ON CANVAS

Unavailable
This is a Limited Edition Giclee of a wonderful three mast Sailing Vessel. Signed in the lower right corner WILLIAM PRESTON. William Preston was a member of the renowned Hull (England) School of Artists who painted in the last half of the 19TH Century. He is listed in both Brewington's Dictionary of Marine Artists and Archibald's Dictionary of Sea Printers. His paintings are displayed alongside those of his fellow Hull artists in Feren's Antique Gallery and Maritime Museum in Hull. His work is also included in the collection of the renowned Peabody Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. The full rigged Ship "ANDORA" was built by Richardson, Duck & Company at Stockton, England, in 1880-1881 for E.F. and W. Roberts. According to Basil Lubbock in his book, The Last of the Windjammers, "the Andora was a well built, economical vessel with few vices. A solid performer with a nice turn of speed, her specifications were: Net Tonnage: 1670, Length: 251 Feet, Breadth: 39 Feet, and Draft: 24 feet. Liverpool was her home port. She was broken up in 1911 after having been transferred to a German owner". This magnificent painting is everything a clipper ship portrait should be. It shows the "Andora" with sails reefed in a heavy, beautifully transluscewnt, beam sea. She has a full watch on board and is taking water over the port bow. Seagulls following in her wake add a nice touch to this classic. A very beautifully and very well done replica on Canvas and produced directly on the canvas using the state of the art Iris Giclee Printing Technology. It has been treated for ultra violet protection and hand varnished in the manner of the original painting to provide additional surface protection and authentucity. The frame measures 25" X 18". CARE AND HANDLING: While this replica has been specially coated to protect against the effects of sunlight, like any other fine work of art, care should be taken to avoid displaying it in direct sunlight over long periods of time. Clean with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any dust, dirt and grime. Additional images are available upon request.
