This abstract mixed-media (primarily watercolor)painting on paper by the American-born surrealist, Dimitri Petrov (1919- 1986), is entitled entitled Great Wall of China. Framed under glass. Frame measures 24 x 32 x 3/4 inches and weighs roughly 6-10 lbs. Signed "Petrov" and dated "1976" in the lower right corner. This is one of three Petrov paintings we have for sale. Petrov was born in Sharon Hill outside of Philadelphia PA, was raised in New Jersey and later moved to Mount Washington MA. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and the Barnes Foundation, and studied print making with Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17. A proponent of the Dada movement, he's known for his surreal paintings and prints, and was editor of the surrealist newspaper "Instead", and co-publisher of "Letter Edged in Black". He participated in group exhibitions at the following galleries and institutions: The Philadelphia Print Club; The Philadelphia Art Alliance; Pennsylvania Museum; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; Swathmore College; Iolas Gallery, New York; Bodley Gallery, New York; Byron Gallery, New York; Carnegie International; Hugo Gallery, New York. Solo exhibitions of his work were have taken place at the following galleries and institutions: Bodley Gallery, New York (1967, 1963, 1958, 1947); Byron Gallery, New York (1966, 1965, 1956); Hugo Gallery, New York (1966, 1960, 1954, 1945); Iolas Gallery, New York (1965, 1960, 1958, 1656); Chicago Gallery of Contemporary Art, Chicago (1957); M.
