1958 Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting by Edward Giobbi

This framed oil on canvas, entitled Still Life with Avadaco, was painted in 1958 by the important American Abstract Expressionist, Edward Giobbi (1926 - ). Canvas measures 45 x 47 inches and resides in a simple, old wooden frame measuring 45 5/8 x 47 5/8 x 1 3/4 inches weighing approximately 25 lbs. This work was purchased by our client shortly after it was painted and has been held by her ever since.

Giobbi studied at the Whitney School of Art (1946), George Vesper School of Art (1946-50), the Art Students League (1950-51, 1955), and the Academy of Fine Art (Academia de Belle Arti), Florence, Italy. He's conducted solo shows at many galleries throughout Europe and the US, including: Ascoli Piceno, Sala dei Mercatori, Italy; Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock; American Embassy, London; Artist Gallery, New York; Brooks Memorial Gallery, Memphis; Certaldo, Palazzo Pretorio, Italy; Galerie An Der Ruess, Lucerne, Switzerland; Galleria Obelisco, Rome; Gross McLeaf Gallery, Philadelphia; Hood Museum, Darthmouth College; Hudson River Museum, Westchester; Irving Gallery, Palm Beach; Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, NY; Memphis Academy of Art, Memphis; Neuberger Museum, Purchase, NY; New Art Centre, London; Norton Gallery, Palm Beach; Palazzo Medici, Florence, Italy; St. Peter's Church, New York; The New Art Centre, London; Norton Gallery, Palm Beach; and Waddell Gallery, New York. His works have been exhibited in group shows at many prestigious institutions, including: Corcoran Gallery of Art (1959); Museum of Modern Art(1960); San Francisco Museum of Art; National Academy of Design; among others. His most recent retrospective entitled Edward Giobbi Paintings, took place in 2003 at the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah NY and was reviewed by the New York Times.
