Pottier & Stymus Chair

Unavailable
High style walnut Renaissance Revival side chair made by Pottier & Stymus, NYC. A round polished bronze medallion is at the top of each side. There is also a rectangular bronze just above the seat in back and a fancy bronze convex rosette at the top of each leg. The frame is decorated with original gilt incised carvings and ebonized panels. It has lovely bronze claw feet in the front with replaced brass casters. The previous owner had this chair beautifully reupholstered with a pleated seat and top of back. While not new, the fabric is in very good usable condition. This chair belonged to a long time collector of Victorian furniture. It originally had a partial label from the Pottier & Stymus firm and was written up in a 1990′s issue of Victorian Homes Magazine. Since that time the label was unfortunately lost but the attribution is certain. A rare chair from one of the most renowned companies of the era! Circa: 1870. Dimensions: 34″H x 21″W. Finish: Most of the outer finish has been removed but the chair retains the original patina with the old gilt and black highlights. Price: $1450.00.
