Pomegranate and Rose Appliqued Quilt - QLT
This is a very nice early Pomegranate and Rose hand appliqued quilt that is hand quilted with a fantastic 22 stitches per inch. The quilt now measures 80 x 73" but the original quilt was 80 x 95" in size. Some where in time some one has folded under 6" of the quilt at each end and stitched it down to make the quilt smaller. (See the last picture.) It has a cotton batting and the same white fabric as the backing. It has a pale peach binding on the edges. The extremely fine and dense hand quilting on this quilt make it a wonderous treasure even with the wear and slight staining. It has one very small tear as shown in picture #7. There is some light shadow staining to different areas of the quilt that was probably caused by the oils in the wood being in contact with the quilt while folded and stored in a wooden chest. This dense hand quilting was lost with the start of the Civil War and is extremely hard to find. This is one of several quilts that was in a quilt collection from Kentucky.
