Plaster-filled Copper Orientalist Bust Sculptures by Rudolf Thiele and Wilhelm Giesecke

Unavailable

Included here are two plaster-filled polychrome patinated copper busts of North African male and female companions,  circa 1880. The female was modeled by Rudolf Thiele (1856-1930) and the male by Wilhelm Christian Andreas Giesecke (1854-1917).  Heights:  28 in (71.1 cm).  Each is signed in the truncated shoulder. Condition of each is good. There are scratches, nicks, surface wear and surface dirt, all consistent with age, plus an early 20th century label.  A similar pair with different painted decorations was offered by Sotheby's in New York on April 20, 2009 in lot 135 and sold for $11,250.
