Pierre Neppel Paris Porcelain Tea Coffee Service Set

This porcelain tea or coffee set by Pierre Neppel of Rue de Crussol Paris, circa 1806-1818, is of the highest quality and condition. It features painted reserves of pastoral scenes including farm animals (cows, dogs, sheep and goats) and their herders, plus exceptional tooled gilt grounds depicting swags, winged cherubs, neoclassical maks, rinceau, wreaths and other motifs. Included is a pot with cover, pair of cups and saucers, and footed fruit bowl. Condition of the set is extraordinary, with little wear to the gilt surfaces and no visible cracks or chips. There is a professional repair to the edge of the pot lid. Pieces are signed " P Neppel a Paris ". Pot Height: 8.5 in, 21.6 cm. Bowl Height: 5.25 in, 13.3 cm. Cup Height: 3.5 in, 8.9 cm. Saucer Width: 5.2 in, 13 cm. According to Sotheby's, Neppel purchased his hard paste factory at Rue de Crussol in 1806 and sold it to August Dominique Denuelle in 1818. Paris sets of this quality and condition are rare. A similar but more extensive Neppel service was sold at Phillips, London, on June 6, 1990 in lot 130, and periodically sets by Denuelle have also appeared at major auction.
