Philippines Antique Altar Mesa Table with Bone Inlay

Unavailable
Antique Table Philippines (Philippines Antique Altar Mesa Table with Bone Inlay). This antique two drawer antique altar table is from the Philippines. Tables of this style, inspired by a mixture of a Chinese Ming altar table and Spanish design, are quite rare. The scale of this altar table is quite delicate for a country piece, so it can be assumed it belonged to a wealthy country family.

It is crafted in the mortise and tenon tradition. The table's top has a floating panel. The top edge and scalloped waist apron are inlaid with carabao (water buffalo) bone. It has cabriole legs ending on four stretchers.

It has retained its original iron handle pulls. It originally had a locking mechanisms but today the key is lost. Nevertheless, the drawers are still able to be opened.

Narra wood comes for the national tree of the Philippines.

A table of this size would make an excellent bed-side or end table. Antique Asian Furniture & Furnishings: Philippines Antique Altar Mesa Table with Bone Inlay from Cagayan Province, Luzon Island Philippines.
