Pair of Herculaneum engravings of a faun upon the pelt of Hercules made after sculptures discovered at The Villa dei Papiri at Herculaneum. Excavations such as this renewed interest in Classicism and gave rise to the Neo-Classical period in art and design. Text on each engraving reads as follows: TOP: 'Casanova Reg. Del, P. Campana Reg. Inc. Pag 163' BOTTOM: 'Giov. Casanova Pag. P. Campana Inc. Due Palmi Romanet Due Palmi Napolet Pag 161' Mat and frames included, glass removed for safe shipping. Engravings are in very good used condition, bottom one has damage due to humidity that can be mostly concealed by new mat. Several concealed inscriptions including previous owner contact information. Shipped fully insured with tracking number. Measurements: Frames: 20.9" by 16.9" (53 cm by 43 cm); Plate Mark: 14.1" by 11.4" (35.8 cm by 29 cm) approximately.
