Pair of French Louis XVI Mahogany Occasional Tables

These are exquisite Louis XVI style mahogany bedside tables. These tables are also known as 'occasional tables.' There is no mistaking their unique quality and design and they will soon become the centrepiece of your antique furniture collection. The tables were inspired by the style of Louis XVI and are made of mahogany. This styling was incredibly popular in France during the reign of Louis XVI (1774-1793).



The tabletop decoration has been accomplished in a parquetry design which is an inlay of wood, often of different colours, that is worked into a geometric pattern.



Both tables have a shelf just above the feet. The tables are finished with decorative ormolu detailing on the mounts and the feet. The front of these tables features an ormolu bow and swag motif. Ormolu is an imitation of gold and is used to ornament furniture and moldings.

These tables are approximately 71 cm high, 51 cm wide and 31 cm deep.
