Pair of Vintage Japanese Black Lacquer & Shell Panels

Pair of vintage Japanese black lacquer panels with carved and painted shell or mother of pearl depictions of birds, lotus blossoms, lily pads, and flowering branches. These beautiful Asian wood panels measure approximately 36 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 3/4 inches deep. The brass decorations at the top bring the total height to approximately 37.5 inches. The wooden frames are hand-painted with gold and white designs. Hand-painted carvings are applied to the panels, creating 3 dimensional scenes. The carvings appear to be made from shell, possibly mother of pearl. One panel features lotus blossoms and two resting birds. The other panel has a motif of songbirds on flowering branches. These art pieces are in very good condition, with light surface wear and small areas of paint loss. They have wires on the backs for hanging and provide a stunning Asian look.
