Included here are two gilt metal (apparently spelter) plaques dating from the nineteenth century, mounted on wooden panels, depicting helmeted Greek soldiers of the Phygian-Chalcidian period, circa fourth century BC.  The figure on the left wears a helmet surmounted with winged horses, while the other wears a helmet surmounted by a spiked crest.  Wooden panels measure 24 by 15.75 in (62 by 40 cm).  Condition is good.  There is flaked losses to the patination on the helmet of one plaque, surface dirt and rubbing, plus oxidation, scratches and nicks to the wooden panels, all consistent with age.  We have not found a hallmark and the country of origin and maker are unknown.  These unusual plaques will make a wonderful addition to any neoclassical decor.
