Cast Iron owl form andirons with glass eyes through which the fire glows, several New England foundries made similar pairs of andirons and these are marked on the back "407E" which is the mark used by the Rostand Manufacturing Company of Milford, Conn. A 1921 trade catalogue in the Printed Book and Periodical Collection of the Winterthur Library shows an identical pair of andirons under catalogue number 407 (pg. 62). This pair has correct glass eye replacements and replaced log holders made to order by our blacksmith. We also have several other pairs of similar owl andirons in our inventory as well as rare matching fireplace tools, 9" W. X 14-1/4" H. X 15" D.
