Ohrstrom Orrefors Girl and Dove Ariel Vase

This is a truly magnificent dark red glass vase cased in clear glass, entitled " Girl and Dove " ( Flickan och Duvan ), hand-blown by the noted Swedish artist, Edvin Ohrstrom (1906-1994) for Orrefors. Underside is inscribed "ORREFORS ... Ariel nr 467-C ... Edvin Orhrstrom". Depicted in this piece are two primary images: a woman with long flowing hair and a peace dove. Measures 7" x 4.5" x 4.5" and weighs 7.5 lbs. Believed to date from the 1960s or 1970s. Excellent condition. T is a very minor factory flaw very close to the base that measures approximately 1/2" across. (Please see our image below.)

This vase is currently offered for $4,200 by Freeforms, one of the leading online dealers of 20th century art glass, at www.freeformsusa.com. A Trocadero dealer (at www.trocadero.com) has this vase in blue offered for $4,500. And on 8/4/04 Sotheby's Sydney sold a blue version in lot 195 for AU $4,320.
