Antique William Kerr Snake GARGOYLE double buckle sterling silver Victorian Mythical Creatures estate jewelry

One of the finest pairs of repousse  William Kerr Buckles I have ever had, this pair of fierce mythical gargoyles are even more powerful with snakes that wrap around either side of the head like Medusa. In great condition these are a real treasure. From my personal collection these have been well taken care of. Imagine having these made into a necklace.. Oh my!

Marked on the back of one is the cartouche with 659 sterling and the william kerr hallmark which looks like a hatchet and 2 x's and is properly called "fasces - a single-bit axe with rods bound with straps" .They used this trademark of a medieval axe from 1855 until 1892 which helps date this piece.  William B. Kerr & Co was eventually sold to Gorham Manufacturing Company These weigh 38.2 grams.
