Our client's unusual torchiere in the Baroque style from Portugal dates from the mid to late nineteenth century and is crafted from silver and wood with an ebonized wooden pedestal.  87 inches tall.  This three-sided open lantern with hinged door is fashioned in the neoclassical style with scroll, shell and acanthus motifs, and mounted on a pole engraved with strapwork and scrolls, mounted on a silvered base mounted on later ebonized wooden base.  Poll marked in two locations with city mark for Lisbon.  Attributed to Antonio Francisco Xavier da Costa. Originally fitted with glass, now missing.
