Antique Indian large Painting Picchavai Scene Of The Mughal Court

$400.00
Quantity available: 1

Antique late 19th century large Indian wall hanging, painting “Picchavai” gouache on fine fabric.
It depicts a scene of the Mughal court with a young royal couple in love on a swing, flanked by court ladies on the palace terrace and framed by a floral border. The painting is finely hand painted with vibrant colors and remarkable details showing the textile pattern of the garments, the carpet design, elements of the white marble interior architecture, including a cornice on the wall adorned with Pietra dura floral decoration, with perching peacock, and two windows overlooking the garden.
In the 20th century, the previous owner framed “Picchavai” professionally in the framing shop, so the fabric was attached to a thick paper board and placed in a large frame.
Due to the large size of the painting due to transport difficulties, we removed the paper board, but there are still small spots of a thin layer of paper on the back of the fabric (see photos in the listing).

CONDITION: It shows its age and use. The edges of the floral border show that the borders were trimmed at the same time, most likely during framing.
