Our client's beautiful German baptismal font dating from the late 19th century is crafted from bronze, gilt metal and copper and inlaid with semi-precious stones and raised on patinated bronze Chinese or Japanese inspired guardian lions.

The rim inscribed TAUFBECKEN DER FAMILIE ARLT (baptismal basin of the Arlt family) in Renaissance style font.  Note the blank cartouches on the sides, apparently to honor new additions to the family, one of which appears engraved but it highly worn due to cleaning/polishing. 

A wonderful example of Renaissance inspired design with elements of Oriental style and one of the most unusual and beautiful works of art we have handled in our 22 years in business.
