Antique Empire Poster Mahogany Bed & Dresser by Berkey & Gay
This is a beautiful old Dresser and matching FULL size bed in original finish, made by Berkey & Gay around 1900. It has ornately carved feet on the front legs of the dresser and bed., highly carved columns on both sides of dresser and bed posts. It retains the original finish, which has become "alligatored", particularly prominent on both sides of the dresser.."Alligatored" finishes have lots of small lines intersecting into a rough pattern, however a lot of people prefer this aged original look. However, due to radical loss of finish on top of dresser, we did refinish the top only. It is also worth noting that both sides of the dresser are darker than the drawers and surface of the dresser (lighter color on top of dresser due in part to it having been refinished.) Both pieces have been thoroughly cleaned, and as stated before, top on dresser only has been refinished. Both pieces are solid as a rock (very structurally sound). The BED takes a full size mattress, outside width of the bed is 58". Posts on headboard measure 60-1/2" h., foot board posts measure 56" h. Wood side rails and slats are included. The DRESSER has 2 small drawers at the top and 2 large drawers at the bottom. It measures 54" w. x 25-1/4" d. x 35" h. to surface, total height, with mirror, is 69-1/2" h. On each side of the dresser at the bottom are two small chips that have been touched up and not noticeable.. ***For shipping purposes, here are measurements of individual pieces: Dresser base 54" w. x 25" d. x 35" h. Mirror 45-1/2" w. x 34" h., 2 dresser columns 26" h x 2-1/2" in diameter. Headboard: 58" w. x 60-1/2" h. Foot board 58" w. x 56" h. Two side rails measure 76" l x 8" w. x 2" thick, plus 4 wood slats 54" long.
