This is a nice clean, antique, 4 pound (and so marked in cast lettering) sledge or hammer. It is also marked by a maker logo and name that I have not seen before....".BLOCKLER PITTSBURG PA." (note the H is dropped from the end of Pittsburgh, most likely to fit into the logo size). We can't find any tool maker's listing for this company in our archives of tool maker's names, and also should mention that the letters are deeply cast into the steel and difficult to read for sure on each letter. The last 4 letters KLER are about the clearest. The lemon slice shaped logo shouldn't be to hard to research, but we found nothing so far about the logo.
The hammer head is in good shape, no sign of abuse, no rust or damage, some light pitting noted on about 98% if the metal surface area. We also not a prick-punch type etch of a past owner's mark on one side. The handle is solid and fits good also.
