 Napoleonic presentation sword of Samuel M. Laurence dated 1804. This is a custom made sword with a gold gilded brass hilt ordered for Lt. Samuel M. Laurence by the famous British WEM Division of Shropshire from the Napoleonic Wars. The hilt and guard are made in a hussar pattern. The inscription on one side of the blade reads: "The Gift of the WEM Division of Shropshire volunteers to Lieutenant and Adjutant Samuel M. Laurence for his able military service and attention towards them. Dec.8, 1804." Also on one side of the blade is engraved a woman holding a scale and on the other side is engraved "Britannia" with spear, shield and a coat of arms. The blade is signed "J.J. Rankin Solingen". There are many Napoleonic swords on the market, but seldom one that is custom made with a historical description. Length of the blade: 31 inches. Width of the blade: 1 3/8 inch
