Here is "Man Carrying Hoe Accompanied by Children", one from a wonderful series of twelve bucolic subjects designed by William Wise (and signed by him at lower left corner) for Mintons known as "Village Life". Mintons China Works Pattern No. 1801, c. 1882. The tile is printed in a beautiful range of lighter to deep indigo blues on white and is in very good condition with slight upper and lower edge nibbles as shown; there is also a shallow upper edge nick at center; it is finished in a bright, glossy glaze.
