McGuffey Ana, Composition Doll, Reliable Co.
This cute little girl is the Canadian version of McGuffey Ana made in the United States by Madame Alexander in 1937. The Reliable Company was licensed by many of our manufacturers to make similiar dolls in Canada. They also made a Shirley Temple which is highly collected in the United States. This one is 14" tall and is all composition, which is in wonderful condition. I only see one line on her back at the waist and that could be just from a doll stand and not crazing. She has all her original paint and her eyelashes. She has blue tin sleep eyes that work just fine. There is a tiny, tiny chip on her bottom lip off the red lipstick. Her mohair wig is still in its original braids, with one old red ribbon on the right side. I will look to see if the other one came off in the box I had her packed in. As you can see, her dress pattern is very similiar to the one used by Madame Alexander. It has an attached onsie in the same pattern. Her apron is very good just aged in color. Other than the aging of color her clothes are in very good condition, they just need freshened up a little. She is wearing very nice rayon socks which may have been added later since they are so white, but she does have on her original old center snap shoes which have aged in color also and are becomming fragile, but they are still snapped closed. This is a very nice adaptation of our sweet Madame Alexander McGuffey Ana and would round out a nice collection of them if you have different sizes and different eras.
