This is a Bryant & May Limited match safe in Very Good + condition. Bryant and May was a partnership formed in 1843 in London and they imported and manufactured both safety matches and the older style Lucifer sticks. They were influential in fighting against the dreadful disease known as Phossy jaw which was caused by the white phosphorus used in the manufacture of the early matches. This nice little match safe has a flip open top embossed with the words Bryant & May Limited and one face of the box is a match striking surface. The safe measures 1 7/8 by 1 1/4 and has a depth of 1/2.
