For Sale is a very nice piece of Art Pottery made by Marblehead Pottery of Marblehead, Mass. This Piece of Art Pottery is a known as a "Cylindrical" Vase. The Vase is a nice Cabinet Size as it stands 4 9/16" tall and is 4 1/4" in diameter.

The Vase displays a Cylindrical or Barrel shape. It has a rich matt speckled blue glaze. The inside has a very nice Blue Green water proofing Gloss Glaze. This color is what Marblehead Pottery Collectors really like. The barrel shape rises up to the mouth and rolls over ever so gently leaving a large opening to accommodate flowers. Marblehead liked to use large openings in their Vases and Vessels. When you hold this Vase in your Hands you can feel the Quality and Strength of the piece. If you put your fingers inside you can feel the grooves that were formed by Fingers as this was a "Hand Thrown" piece as we call it. This is not a Mold made piece.

The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The glaze on the underside curve going towards the foot is a little weak in glaze covering. It is covered in blue but weaker than the side glaze. This cannot be seen unless you hold it at an angle to the light. The Vase is signed with Marblehead's Impressed "MP" and Ship Logo Signature mark. This is a nice clear impressed mark that is easy to see.

Those of you who collect Marblehead Pottery and want an excellent example in this form do not let this one pass you by. This piece was made Circa 1904-1915.

Marblehead Pottery was established in 1904 by Dr. Herbert J. Hall as a Studio Art Pottery in Marblehead, Massachusetts using the art and technique of ceramics manufacturing and decorating as a rehabilitation and therapeutic aid to local sanitarium patients at Hall's Devereux Mansion Sanitarium. Marblehead Pottery stopped producing Art Pottery in 1936. Marblehead Pottery was a small Pottery Company never employing more than 6 workers. Their Pottery is considered somewhat scare as compared to their Contemporaries of the day.
